Daniel CainerDaniel Cainer's musical journey is a laugh and cry, almonds and raisins solo tour-de-force. Warm, open, intimate - and very, very funny - Daniel shares, without judgement, the universal insights discovered while exploring his roots. Jewish Chronicles is a literal title: this is Daniel's personal journey in comic songs about his family and the Jewish world. Frank without controversy, personal without confrontation or any trace of bitterness, the songs are deeply felt; it's not on-stage therapy or cheap laughs at the expense of religion and culture. Cainer has impressive vocal, musical and emotional range. Uniting Gentile and Jew through his honest style of storytelling, Daniel explores what it means to be Jewish in a turbulent 21st century. Jess GoldJess, popularly referred to as Jukebox Jess, has an intuitive understanding of how to get a crowd singing which was nurtured through training as a song-leader with Debbie Friedman. She recorded her first album of original Jewish songs with the band Red Sea Blue in September 1999, with whom she toured Jewish Community Centres and Camps in the USA for three years. The carbon guilt kicked in and she decided to stop flying, a decision that would eventually lead to her new eco music path. Since 2009 she has been carrying out concerts and song-writing workshops in venues as varied as schools, protest camps, festivals and private homes. She is launching her second album of original songs, this time eco themed, with a UK concert tour in September 2012. Israeli Music Competition and Ernst Bloch Music Competition(Next deadline: 20 May 2012) The Israeli Music Competition was begun in 2008 and aims to familarise both professionals and students with the fascinating styles of Israeli music - a rich tapestry of sounds which produce a musical blend without equal; a fusion of Western musical idioms such as Klezmer (brought over with the first immigrants in the 1880s), and Eastern traditions brought by Jews from Arab countries. The Ernest Bloch Music Competition was begun in 2009. Ernest Bloch (24 July 1880 – 15 July 1959) was a Swiss-born, American-Jewish composer and, since the 50th anniversary of his death was commemorated in 2009, the addition of the Ernest Bloch Music Competition to the Israeli Music Competition has drawn much worldwide interest. Los DesterradosLos Desterrados bring vibrant new life to the ancient music of the Sephardic Jews, sung in Ladino and Hebrew. Fusing Spanish flamenco and the fiery Gypsy melodies of the Balkans and Greece with the rhythms of North Africa and Turkey, Los Desterrados have created a rootsy Mediterranean sound that is wholly their own. Over the past decade, “Los Des” have helped to drive the revival of Sephardic music in the UK and internationally as a genre-busting category that appeals equally to fans of world music, early music, flamenco, Latin, North African, Balkan and folk whilst remaining deeply rooted in the Jewish community and contemporary London. Los Desterrados have released four albums, selling over 6,000 CDs to date (including over 1,000 in Turkey) through worldwide distribution. Their third album, 'Miradores', was produced by Simon Edwards, former member of Brit Award-winning 80s band Fairground Attraction. Los Desterrados were nominated again for a Songlines Music Award in 2014 for their 4th studio album – ‘Dos Amantes’. W: www.losdesterrados.com Also, find us on Facebook
